By Night Under The Stone Bridge depicts three scenes from Leo Perutz's book of the same name. His surreal short stories are about forbidden connections and Kabbalistic symbolism. It depicts the supernatural bond between the Emperor and Esther, the wife of the wealthy Mordechai Meisl. Because they cannot meet in the physical world, a Great Rabbi plants a rosebush and a rosemary bush that entwine their souls in the spirit realm.
